During 11 years at Merck, he led clinical imaging and pathology strategy, supported 300+ trials and 50+ regulatory approvals, and advanced the use of AI and analytics in clinical research. Earlier he served as Head of Oncology Imaging at ICON Clinical Research, overseeing imaging across 100+ trials. He has authored numerous publications, including “Setting the standard: Empirical Benchmarks for Case-level Site–central Discordance in Radiographic Endpoints in Oncology Clinical Trials” (Contemporary Clinical Trials Communications, Sep. 2026) and actively contributes to cross-industry scientific and standards initiatives.

He specializes in applying imaging science to study and project design to maximize opportunities for success and has authored numerous publications on both imaging science and general oncology clinical research. For many years, he served as Principal Expert for Diagnostic Radiology and Pharmaceutical Development at Merck KGaA in Darmstadt, Germany.

Manuela Lesch has more than 20 years of experience in clinical trial imaging, with expertise in oncology and neuro-oncology. Since joining Perceptive in 2004, she has specialized in imaging strategies for complex clinical trials, including solid tumors, primary brain tumors, and brain metastases. As Scientific Operations Lead for Solid Tumors, she provides scientific leadership across study design, imaging endpoints, independent review, and assessment criteria.
